Arctic Thunder rolled through the big-field 4:40 Betway Capital City Handicap at Haydock, winning by two and a half lengths at 7/2 for Kieran Shoemark and Ed Walker. The preview’s fancy Lost Signal? Nowhere. That bet is a loser.
| Pos | Horse | Jockey | SP |

| 3rd | Yorkshire | Callum Rodriguez | 11/1 |
The Race Story
In a Class 3 sprint-finish over Haydock’s extended seven furlongs that had been billed as one of the most competitive races on the card, Arctic Thunder settled it decisively, coming clear of Inspired with Yorkshire a further three quarters of a length back in third and only a head to the fourth.
It caps a fine few minutes for trainer Ed Walker’s book-keeping: his Popmaster had just been beaten in the Shergar Cup Mile at Ascot, but the stable’s money-earner turned up at Haydock instead, with Shoemark judging the strong pace to perfection from off the speed.
Tipster Accountability
Our Haydock preview went with Lost Signal — “the classic well-bred handicap debutant” at 7/2 — and the German Guineas seventh missed the frame on his handicap bow. Losing bet, no excuses. The preview’s notes read better than its staking: Inspired (“better than recent form”) ran second at 17/2 and Yorkshire (“likes quick ground”) was third at 11/1 — frame-fillers for each-way players who read between the lines. Value pick Tilted Kilt was also out of the frame. No tracked tipsters from today’s review were engaged here.
Looking Ahead
Haydock’s 5:10 finale is the Betway Apprentice Handicap for three-year-olds over a mile, with all-weather specialist Suggy a 13/8 shot to convert on turf and Phantom Watch, ridden by 4:09 winning jockey Liam Wright, the main danger at 9/2. Earlier on the card, Pellitory took the 3:34 after Moonshine refused to race.
