Ayr Sprint Handicap Result: South Parade Strikes at 9/2

South Parade won the 6:00 Sunday Roast At Western House Hotel Handicap at Ayr at 9/2, staying on strongly under Ethan Tindall for Richard and Peter Fahey to beat Startling by a length and a half.

1st South Parade Ethan Tindall 9/2
2nd Startling Jason Hart 16/1
3rd Harry Mole Dougie Costello 11/2

Twelve sprinters went to post for the five-furlong Class 6 dash after the late withdrawal of in-form King Of The Jungle, on ground officially good, good to soft in places.

The Race Story

The betting told one story and the race told another. Harry Mole, 9/4 in the morning, drifted all the way to 11/2, while money poured onto Harb, backed from 7/1 into 4/1 favouritism — and neither delivered. Harb finished unplaced, while Harry Mole ran his usual honest race to be third, a short head behind the runner-up. That left the prize to South Parade, a 10/1 shot in the morning lists, who travelled sweetly for Tindall and put the race to bed inside the final furlong. Startling, a 16/1 chance after opening 8/1, banged the frame yet again in second — the serial place-getter is now an eight-race maiden this season.

Tipster Accountability

A miss for the desk: our Ayr preview made Harry Mole the verdict on the basis that his day had finally come — third place says otherwise, though the same piece did flag Startling as a value place-getter and she duly filled second at double her morning price. None of the tracked names in today’s tipster review had a bet in the race.

Looking Ahead

The 6:30 Ladies Day Handicap over a mile and a quarter is the bet of the night for many: Tiger, odds-on in the morning after his Chester win for Ian Williams, faces 12 rivals following Annandale’s withdrawal. Our result from that race follows shortly. Earlier on the card, Roman Crystal took the opener at 7/2.
