Vincent Ho will captain Team Hong Kong at Ascot after Jerry Chau and Luke Ferraris were confirmed for the 25th Shergar Cup on Saturday, 8 August.
The Hong Kong Jockey Club announced the line-up at Sha Tin, making Ho, Chau and Ferraris the jurisdiction’s representatives for one of the most distinctive international jockey competitions in the calendar.
It is a notable step for the Shergar Cup as well as Hong Kong racing. The six-race team event will be run under the World Pool banner for the first time, with Hong Kong taking on Great Britain and Ireland, Europe and the Rest of the World at Ascot.
Hong Kong makes Ascot move
Ho returns to the meeting having helped the Rest of the World team win in 2019, when he also rode Power Of Darkness to victory in the Shergar Cup Mile. He has since built one of racing’s most recognisable international profiles through his partnership with Golden Sixty.
Chau arrives as a leading homegrown rider in Hong Kong, while Ferraris adds South African Triple Crown-winning experience to the team. HKJC executive director of racing Andrew Harding said the selection reflects Hong Kong’s world-class jockey roster, according to the Hong Kong Jockey Club announcement.
Ascot racing director Nick Smith described the news as a major milestone for the competition, which now has a sharper global edge heading into its August return.
