Note To Self won the 2026 Hollywoodbets Durban July at Greyville on Saturday, giving Justin Snaith and Richard Fourie a landmark South African Grade 1 strike after collaring stablemate Wish List late.

The three-year-old came from off the pace in South Africa’s most recognisable race, charging down the near side to beat Wish List by a quarter-length and complete a Snaith one-two. King Pelles finished third, with Viva’s Liberte fourth in the 18-runner contest.

The result matters beyond the finish photo. Snaith is now one Durban July win short of Syd Laird’s record haul of seven, while Fourie also moved closer to the race’s all-time riding mark after producing Note To Self at the right moment in Greyville’s famously tight straight.

Greyville Win Lifts Note To Self

Note To Self had already hinted at this level when placed in the Cape Derby and Daily News 2000, but this was the breakthrough that stamped him as a leading South African performer. Snaith told Racing Post’s Durban July report the gelding had changed noticeably in the week before the race.

For Fourie, the occasion was just as emphatic. The jockey described the noise from the Greyville crowd as overwhelming after a victory that paired South African racing’s biggest stage with two of its defining modern figures.
