Field Of Gold Retirement Takes Juddmonte Star To Stud In 2027

Field Of Gold has been retired from racing by Juddmonte, with the European champion three-year-old miler now set to begin stud duties in 2027. The decision was announced on Sunday, July 5, after connections accepted the John and Thady Gosden-trained colt would not be ready to return to top-level action this season.

Juddmonte confirmed Field Of Gold’s retirement and said the son of Kingman will stand alongside his sire on the operation’s stallion roster. It is a decisive early call rather than a late campaign gamble, protecting both the horse’s recovery and his value as a future stallion.

What Juddmonte’s Decision Means

The call ends the racing career of one of Europe’s most important recent milers. Field Of Gold had already built a stallion-grade profile through his Group 1 wins in the Irish 2,000 Guineas and St James’s Palace Stakes, where his acceleration marked him out as a defining colt of his generation.

For the Gosden yard, it removes a major older-horse option from the late-summer and autumn mile programme. For Juddmonte, it turns the focus immediately to his second career: a homebred son of Kingman with Classic form, Royal Ascot authority and a commercial profile strong enough to shape the 2027 European breeding market.

The timing also changes the mile division’s shape. Rivals who might have been pointed towards a rematch now face a clearer route through the rest of the season, while Juddmonte can present Field Of Gold as a finished racing product rather than a horse still chasing one more defining performance.
