The British Horseracing Authority has confirmed an additional Flat fixture at Wolverhampton on Friday 17 July after Haydock Park’s next two meetings were cancelled.
The update, announced on Friday 3 July, follows the Jockey Club’s decision earlier this week to cancel Haydock’s fixtures on Friday 17 July and Saturday 18 July.
The Saturday card has already been moved to Nottingham on the same date, while Wolverhampton will now stage the added Friday programme.
In its latest fixtures update, the BHA said the Horserace Betting Levy Board would contribute to the prize-money funding for the extra meeting and thanked Wolverhampton for agreeing to host.
Wolverhampton Called In As Fixture Pressure Builds
The switch matters because it protects a piece of the mid-July Flat programme at a time when British racing has already had to juggle weather-related changes and course-specific disruption through the summer.
Haydock’s cancellations leave another gap in a period packed with major Flat fixtures, but the Wolverhampton addition gives owners, trainers and riders a replacement opportunity on the same Friday.
The BHA has not yet detailed the race conditions for the new card, with entries and final race planning expected to follow through the usual fixture and race programme channels.
For punters and participants, the key date is now Friday 17 July at Wolverhampton, with Nottingham taking over Haydock’s Saturday 18 July slot.
