Andy Newton Sandown Horse Racing Tips
13:50 SANDOWN – Coral Charge (Group 3) (Registered As The Sprint Stakes) Cl1 (3yo+) 5f ITV4
Asfoora is the class act here, but at the age of 7 now I just wonder if she’s on the slight decline. While with 8 of the last 9 winners from stalls 6 or lower, is the 8 berth ideal?
Rumstar took this last year and is very much noted, but is another drawn wide in 9. That said, he does like to run from off the pace and we should still see him on the scene late.
But WORDS OF TRUTH looked to have a bit in-hand when winning here last time and gate 6 looks okay (won from 7 last time). He’s a G2 winner in the past too, when landing the Mill Reef last season and gets a handy 2lbs (Asfoora) and 5lbs (Rumstar).
I also think SHAGRAAN can go well, despite two average runs this season – including last time when 17th in the King Charles Stakes at Royal Ascot.
However, he took bronze in this last year from gate 8, but is much better drawn in 1 this time. He can race up with the pace so that starting berth is a plus.
While all of the last five winners were aged 5, which coupled with the draw stat (8 of last 9 from 6 or lower) suggest he’s got a fair bit of history on his side.

14:25 SANDOWN – Coral Challenge (Handicap) Cl2 (3yo+) 1m ITV4
Many chances here and at big prices both LIBERTY LANE and HARD ENDEAVOUR look a tad over-priced to me.
The former will have Ryan Moore in the saddle and is interesting down to a mark of 110 in a handicap. Plus also sports the first-time blinkers.
Of the rest, Classic won this last year and the Hannon yard have won 2 of the last 8. But Classic is up 12lbs from last year, while the stable also run River King, who was 5th in the Buckingham Palace Stakes last time and should be better back up in trip.
But the main pick is TRIBAL CHIEF, who will be fresher than most after just two runs this year. These were good efforts though, with two third in the Lincoln and then last time at Ascot in the Victoria Cup over 7f.
He’s off the same mark, but likes to come from off the pace, so I think the stiff Sandown finish will be right up his street. The Menuisier yard are in great form too and Saffie Osborne has been booked to ride.
🥇TRIBAL CHIEF (NAP)
🥈LIBERTY LANE
🥉HARD ENDEAVOUR
15:00 SANDOWN – Coral Distaff (Listed Race) Cl1 (3yo) 1m ITV4
Pacific Mission is the top-rated here and so has to be noted off a mark of 107 but is still 0-5 on the turf and is yet to win beyond 7f.
Act Of Kindness has a bit to prove for me too after also not seemingly seeing out the mile at York in a Listed race last time.
So that I’d rather side with one of the three proven distance winners in the line-up – SACRED GROUND.
This Gosden runner has been plying his trade over a bit further in recent races so I think the drop back to 1m will suit.
The yard have also won two of the last seven runnings and it goes without saying Ryan Moore is an obvious bonus in the plate.
Of the rest, the unbeaten Secret Of Life is chanced for a place too, having won well in both her starts at a lower level.
But it’s interesting that connections are pitching her in his higher grade so soon.
Finally Oisin Murphy has a top record in this race, with two wins in the last six – he rides Estissa for James Fanshawe.
She was a winner at Wolverhampton last time and that form looks decent.
With the third (City Queen) winning since and the 4th (Symbol Of Honour) running a blinder to be 2nd in the Sandringham Stakes at Royal Ascot in her next race.
🥇SACRED GROUND
🥈ESTISSA
🥉SECRET OF LIFE
15:35 SANDOWN – Coral-Eclipse (Group 1) Cl1 (3yo+) 1m2f ITV4
Aidan O’Brien is hunting his tenth Coral-Eclipse win and thank god he’s sending two of his big guns over, in what would otherwise be a terrible renewal of this Group One.
Hawk Mountain, who has bypassed the German Derby for this will renew his rivalry with stablemate CONSTITUTION RIVER, after they finished 1-2 in the French Derby last month.
There was only 3/4 of a length between them that day, so there maybe plenty wanting to snap-up the 6/1 on Hawk Mountain over the Evs on Constitution River.
However, Ryan Moore has stayed loyal to his French Derby winner and you feel there might have been a tad more left in the tank at Chantilly last time.
Those against the pair might look to that last race looking a hard-fought one, plus both will be running here at Sandown for the first time.
They will also be taking on two horses that have proven form at the Esher track. Saddadd is 2-2 here, but these wins have come at lower levels.
While Gethin ran the mighty Ombudsman close here in the Brigadier Gerard Stakes last time.
The last-named is a horse I like a lot and I think he can serve it up to the O’Brien pair – but being a 4yold does have to give 10lbs away and that’s a fair chunk to two classy sorts.
The last five winners have all been aged 3 too, so I’ll take Constitution River to follow in Vadeni’s footsteps, who also landed both the French Derby and Eclipse.

Newmarket Horse Racing Tips On Saturday

14:05 NEWMARKET (JULY) – Betway Handicap (Gbbplus Race) Cl2 (3yo) 1m6f ITV4
It’s hard to get away from the good run of ARC OLE OLE in the King George V Stakes at Royal Ascot last time (5th).
This Dylan Cunha runner ran on well that day over 1m4f – weaving through the traffic – to suggest this step up to 1m6f will suit.
While before that Ascot run, he’d won well at Doncaster and York.
Mythical Bay has a consistent profile and has to be noted, despite being up 7lbs for his last win at Newbury.
Heroics and Lopeo are others to note, while it’s interesting the Johnston yard have a good record in this race.
They’ve won the pot in four times since 2018, so their Amora Queen might be worth a saver, but does need to improve for the longer trip.

🥈AMORA QUEEN
🥉LOPEO
14:40 NEWMARKET (JULY) – Betway Lancashire Oaks (Group 2) Cl1 (3yo+) 1m4f ITV4
If ratings are anything to go by then TIFFANY off 112 should be taking this with a bit in-hand. Plus is also sporting the first-time visor.
This Sir Mark Prescott runner is 10lbs clear of the next best (Caught U Sleeping) and is yet to finish out of the top three on the turf from 11 starts (4 wins).
Those against her will look at a recent run of seconds but three of those came in Group Ones.
Of the rest, the Gosden yard have a top record in the Lancashire Oaks with 10 wins over the years. They run Crepe Suzette, but this filly hasn’t won in six and her only success came in a Wolverhampton maiden.
Miss Justice was 4th to Tiffany (when 2nd) last time in France and might be some value in the first-time tongue-tie.
While a case can be made for Tattycoram too after her win at Goodwood last time and the second winning since.
But as the old Tiffany song went – Luke Morris and his 6yold mare should really be hitting the front here and singing “I think we’re alone now” to the rest.
🥇TIFFANY
🥈TATTYCORAM
🥉MISS JUSTICE
15:15 NEWMARKET (JULY) – Betway Old Newton Cup Handicap (Gbbplus Race) Cl2 (4yo+) 1m4f ITV4
Klassleader could easily live up to his name here – having stayed on really well the last day to win at York.
But this race has only seen 2 winning favourites in the last 23 runnings and none in the last 10 years.
This Haggas runner is also up 8lbs an d the yard are yet to win the Old Newton Cup.
All that said, he’s still a big player, but no real value to me.
Especially as last year’s winner is back for more – PLAGE DE HAVRE, who was third behind Klassleader last time too.
But the Balding runner is 9lbs better off this time for just over 5 lengths. I’ll take him to be the first ‘back-to-back’ winner since Glide Path in 93-94.
Of the rest, the Johnston runner Elsass is on the up after two recent nice wins – but is up another 8lbs for the last, which came at Hamilton.
While Paddy The Squire was 2nd in this last season – beaten 4 lengths – but ran well to be 3rd in the Copper Horse at Royal Ascot last time so heads here in fair order.
