Woodbine Cancels July 2 Card After Sewer Line Leak On Main Track

Woodbine has cancelled Thursday’s Thoroughbred racing card and main-track training after a sewer line leak was found at the half-mile pole of its all-weather main track.

Woodbine Entertainment announced the decision in Toronto on Wednesday, with the affected fixture due to take place on Thursday, July 2. Contractors were already on site and were scheduled to continue repair work through Thursday.

The move removes a midweek card from one of North America’s most important summer circuits and creates a knock-on scheduling issue for Sunday’s programme.

Woodbine said the seven races from Thursday’s card are expected to be moved to Sunday, July 5, pending review, producing a 15-race card without the transferred races being redrawn.

Sunday Card Set For Major Expansion

The cancellation is another reminder of how quickly racecourse infrastructure can reshape a racing week. Woodbine’s announcement covers both live racing and Thursday morning training on the main track, meaning the disruption is not limited to betting turnover or racegoers.

For horsemen, the key detail is that the races are expected to be preserved rather than abandoned entirely.

The official Woodbine cancellation notice said the moved races will not be redrawn, keeping entries intact if the revised Sunday plan is approved.

Friday and Saturday racing remain the immediate next points to watch as Woodbine works through the repairs and assesses the main track before the expanded Sunday card.
