In My Teens gave Gavin Cromwell and Gary Carroll a clear-cut Curragh winner on Sunday evening, landing the Dubai Duty Free Irish European Breeders Fund Ragusa Handicap over 1m4f.
The four-year-old, carrying the John P McManus colours, was returned at 9/1 and travelled strongly before taking control inside the final two furlongs. Carroll had him in mid-division before improving into sixth three furlongs out, then produced him to lead under two furlongs from home.
Once asked to quicken, In My Teens put the race away sharply and stayed on strongly through the final furlong. The official result recorded him as a seven-length winner from the Emmet Mullins-trained This Songisforyou, with The Real Screamer third, a further length and three-quarters away.
Curragh Handicap Win Adds To Cromwell Momentum
The performance stood out on a deep Irish Derby day card because of the manner of the victory as much as the winning margin. In My Teens was rated 96 before the race and handled the good ground decisively, stopping the clock in 2m 30.14s.
The At The Races full result also confirmed one non-runner, Truth Be Told, leaving 13 runners to contest the premier handicap.
For Cromwell, it was another useful Flat prize on a weekend dominated by high-profile Curragh performances, while Carroll’s patient ride turned the closing race into a one-sided finish.
