Genesis landed the EUR100,000 Dubai Duty Free Rockingham Handicap at the Curragh on Sunday, giving trainer Michael Mulvany and jockey Wesley Joyce a 25/1 success in the five-furlong Premier Handicap.

The gelding, fitted with cheekpieces for the first time, was sent forward early by Joyce and kept enough in reserve to beat Sarahmae by a neck. Dark Ace finished another half-length away in third, with Cuban Grey fourth and favourite Toca Madera only fifth.

It was Genesis’ fourth career win and his second at the Curragh this season, extending a strong run at the track for Mulvany, who has now saddled five winners there in 2026.

The result also gave the Derby day support card an early shock, with the 10/3 favourite Toca Madera unable to threaten the first four.

Mulvany Hails Genesis Speed After Curragh Strike

Mulvany told IrishRacing after the Rockingham Handicap that Genesis had always shown serious pace at home and that dropping back to five furlongs helped bring out his best.

The trainer said the Curragh had been “very lucky” for his yard after another valuable handicap win, while Genesis also holds an entry at Bellewstown on Thursday. Whether he turns out again quickly will depend on the handicapper’s reaction, but this was a sharp reminder that Mulvany’s sprinter is thriving when allowed to attack from the front.
