Nigel Tinkler has set El Floridita on course for Goodwood’s Molecomb Stakes after the two-year-old chased home Orthodox in the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot.
The Yorkshire trainer is keeping the colt at five furlongs, with Goodwood now the intended next stop provided he comes through the coming weeks cleanly.
Tinkler said the juvenile has grown significantly over the last six weeks, which means his team will stay careful with him while still aiming at a major summer target.
At The Races reported that El Floridita will head to the Molecomb if all remains well, giving Tinkler a chance to return to a meeting where Acklam Express advertised the yard’s sharp juvenile work in 2020.
Goodwood Plan Gives Tinkler A Clear Juvenile Target
El Floridita’s Royal Ascot run has quickly turned him from a promising youngster into a live Goodwood candidate.
His Norfolk second came behind Orthodox, one of the more striking juvenile winners of the week, and Tinkler appears keen to keep the focus on speed rather than stretching him out at this stage.
The trainer also has Ronson, narrowly denied in the Beverley Two Year Old Trophy, pencilled in for Sandown’s Dragon Stakes.
That gives the yard two sharp two-year-olds to split across different summer routes, with El Floridita now carrying the Molecomb brief.
