Andy Newton Royal Ascot Tips 2026

2:30pm Queen Mary Stakes Group 2 5f ITV / Sky

Many promising 2yold fillies on show here and the betting is suggesting a tricky opening day two contest.

Aidan O’Brien won this race for just the first time last year with True Love and will be trying to back that up with his unbeaten Victorious, but the draw is the issue for me.

10 of the last 11 winners hailed from gates 10+.

Karl Burke has also won two of the last four and he runs recent Carlisle winner Wild Blossom, who bolted up on debut by 10 lengths. But she’s another drawn low in 7.

Senorita Bonita won well enough on debut at Nottingham and with William Buick riding has to be shortlisted from gate 10.

But a chance is taken on the two US runners – MORE CHAMPAGNE, which having been to Royal Ascot on Tuesday is certainly something I don’t need on Wednesday!

And also the Wesley Ward runner RUIVA – with this American yard having won three of the last 11 runnings of this race.

Both won last time out and, yes, their form is hard to translate – but what we do know is horses that finished in behind them both have since come out and won.

They are also drawn in 14 and 16, so based on the draw stats, these look fair positions.

🥇 RUIVA
🥈 MORE CHAMPAGNE
🥉Senorita Bonita

3:05pm Queen’s Vase Group 2 1m6f ITV / Sky

We are back up in trip here to 1m6f for the Queen’s Vase – a race Aidan O’Brien has won eight times and tries again with Port Of Spain.

However, this 3yold is up a fair bit in trip, having been running over 1m2f, so the jury is out on lasting home.

Limestone and Asakir were first and second at Navan last time and there shouldn’t be a lot between them again on the same terms.

But Asakir sports the cheekpieces this time.

However, this is a race the Andrew Balding yard have done well in – with a stack of places and a win in 2019.

They go again with GALIYAN, who has a big chance if building on his recent Chester win.

The form of that race has been franked with the 3rd Glory Of The Seas winning since and having won over 1m5f we know he stays.

Oisin Murphy riding is the icing on the cake.

🥇 GALIYAN
🥈Asakir
🥉Limestone

3:40pm Duke of Cambridge Stakes Group 2 1m (round) ITV / Sky

Blue Bolt got the better of Kon Tiki at Goodwood last time and on the same marks it will be close again.

Cathedral is a filly that has won a lot of prize money, but it’s mainly for finishing placed – she heads here 0-9 in her last races and that’s the worry for me.

So the two I like here are FRIENDLY SOUL and CATALINA DELCARPIO, who was 3rd in the Ribblesdale Stakes last season here over 1m4f.

Is down to a mile here but at this stiff track that will suit and she showed enough pace to win over this trip last time at Leopardstown.

Then Friendly Soul represents the Gosden yard, who love this race. They’ve won four of the last six, including the last two with Crimson Advocate and Running Lion.

She came back from a long time off with setbacks when pulled up in that race at Haydock where they found a hole to Australia in the straight.

So, we can put a line through that effort. She’s still the joint top-rated in the field with Cathedral and before her time off was a Group One winner in France – when beating the 2024 winner of this race Running Lion.

🥇FRIENDLY SOUL
🥈CATALINA DELCARPIO
🥉Blue Bolt

4:20pm Prince of Wales’s Stakes Group 1 1m 2f ITV / Sky

One of the races of the week here with Arc hero Daryz coming over to take on last year’s winner of this race – OMBUDSMAN.

Both will have their backers and both head here in great form after two wins already this year.

But by worry for Daryz is the unknown on the track (first run here) and also his only run outside France saw him well back (6th) in the Juddmonte last season – albeit in a messy race.

So, Ombudsman is still the one for me having burst onto the scene to take this race 12 months ago.

He came back last time with a nice win in the Brigadier Gerard Stakes at Sandown and is sure to take a step forward again – with that race also one he used as a prep before taking this in 2025.

The ground will be fine too and unlike Daryz we know Ombudsman acts at the track.

Oh – the last trainer to win this race back-to-back was a certain John Gosden – when winning the prize in 1994/95 with Muhtarram.

Of the rest, Almaqam is certainly no back number having won the Tatts Gold Cup last time and that form has been boosted with the second Bay City Roller winning the Coronation Cup at Epsom recently.

🥇OMBUDSMAN
🥈Almaqam
🥉Daryz

5:00pm Royal Hunt Cup Handicap 1m (straight) ITV / Sky

30 runners here so big puzzle to unravel – but despite only 3 winning favourites in the last 24, two have come in recent years.

21 of the last 24 were aged 4 or 5 too, while 18 of the last 24 carried 9-1 or less.

So the horse that I think is interesting is SHOUT, who was a good third at York last time.

He was sent off favourite two runs back at Newbury but didn’t really run his race, but improved last time and the form of that race looks solid.

Backed up with the 6th Point Of Contact winning last Saturday , while the 7th Diego Ventura has also won since.

I’ll take Shout to ‘scream home’.

I also think LINWOOD is worth a saver as I’ve been impressed with his wins – including his last at Newbury.

He’s only up 3lbs for that and has Mr Ascot Straight Mile Jamie Spencer in the plate again.

Yes, he’s got a lot of weight (9st 10lbs) but could easily be a horse that progresses out of handicaps very soon.

🥇SHOUT
🥈LINWOOD
🥉Thunder Run

5:35pm Kensington Palace Stakes Handicap 1m (straight) ITV / Sky

Another tricky race to solve – with a lot of these running against each other last time at Ascot.

Radiant Beauty won that race, with Song N Dance 2nd, Alobayyah 3rd – but it’s a horse that came 6th that interests me.

Step forward ZGHARTA, who represents the Balding/Murphy camp who won this race last season too with Miss Information.

She is 7lbs better off with the winner from last time and was 7th in the Sandringham Stakes last time season here too.

That experience is a plus and she only gets in here with 8st 9lbs, but carried 9st 12lbs last time.

Of the rest, I also think OOLONG POOBONG is worth a saver.

This Ed Bethell runner was another that ran in the Sandringham (4th) and is back only a pound higher.

She returned with a fair 5th at Thirsk last time and is another that will have the services of Jamie Spencer, who loves the straight mile here at Ascot.

🥇 ZGHARTA
🥈OOLONG POOBONG
🥉Song N Dance

6:10pm Windsor Castle Stakes Listed 6f ITV4 / Sky

The final Royal Ascot tips on day two come in the Listed Windsor Castle Stakes – a race Aidan O’Brien has won three times in the last 11.

And I think he’s got a top chance of adding to that with SERGEI DIAGHILEV.

This Wootton Bassett colt won well at the Curragh on debut over 6f and the form of that race is working out well.

With the 2nd (Switching Side) and 3rd (Folsom Blue) both winning since.

Ryan Moore rides and so let’s not overcomplicate things here.

If Victorious runs well in the Queen Mary (first race today), that will boost the chances of Controlla here, who was second to her on debut.

While One Number and Ruler’s Control are others to respect from the Joseph O’Brien team.

🥇SERGEI DIAGHILEV
🥈Controlla
🥉One Number
