Top Australian jockey Zac Lloyd set for Royal Ascot debut

Top up-and-coming Australian jockey Zac Lloyd is set to ride at Royal Ascot for the first time.

Zac Lloyd Set For Royal Ascot Debut

Multiple Group1-winning Australian jockey Zac Lloyd said it is a “dream come true” to be riding at Royal Ascot in a couple of weeks time.

The 22-year-old has had a rapid rise in popularity Down Under and will now have a stint in Britain after being invited to work over here by 2000 Guineas-winning trainer George Boughey.

Lloyd was speaking to the Racing Post:

I’ve always wanted to spend the Australian winter overseas getting a bit of experience. After the autumn I had, it opened a few doors and George Boughey got in touch about potentially coming over for some lightweight rides at Royal Ascot, which was a fantastic opportunity.

I’m mostly over here for George, but I’ve got a great agent (Tony Hind) with a lot of connections to different trainers, which is a big help as well.

Royal Ascot is a dream come true and, in my eyes, it’s the most prestigious meeting in the world. I’m very excited to compete there.

Godolphin Give Lloyd Two Rides At Doncaster On Friday

Just a few months after winning the Group 1 Golden Slipper aboard Guest House, Lloyd will head to Doncaster for his first rides in the UK.

He will ride Ruler Of Time for Godolphin,  who remains a maiden after four runs. Stepping up to 1m should bring out plenty of improvement around the mega money purchase.

Lloyd then has a handful of rides on Saturday at the same track.

Doncaster looks like a fabulous track to ride. Tony has got everything organised and it’s very exciting. The British tracks are going to be very different to what I’m used to, but I’ll do my homework, study the replsys and go in with the best possible idea of what to do.
