What Has Been The Best Derby Draw Over The Years?
Since starting stalls were introduced to the Epsom Derby in 1967, STALL 10 has been the most successful with 12 WINNERS – which is occupied by Ancient Egypt from the Charlie Johnston yard.
Last year’s Derby winner LAMBOURN also came from stall 10, so it could be worth sticking with the history and backing Johnston’s horse.
The next best stall after 10 is 5, which will see Christmas Day come out. Christmas Day was last seen running in the Dante at York but he ran flat there and would need to improve plenty to feature here.
Stall 9 has also seen a bit of success, with five winners coming from there.
1, 4 and 14 have four winners too.
However, we have never seen a winner from stall 2 or 11, so big outsider Balzac and Aidan O’Brien’s third string Action look well up against it.

How Many Times Has Aidan O’Brien Won The Derby?
O’Brien has had plenty of success in the Derby, with 11 winners over the years.
This year he is searching for a fourth victory in a row, winning the last three renewals.
No trainer has ever won the Derby four years on the bounce, so it would be an amazing achievement. He won it last year with Lambourn, coming from the most successful stall in gate number 10.
Galileo was the Ballydoyle’s first winner of the race in 2001, and he went on to become one of the greatest stallions there has ever been.
