Haydock cancel weekend racing after track failed inspection
  • Haydock weekend racing cancelled
  • Inspection was held and failed with inner track unfit for racing
  • Races set to be rescheduled, Haydock working with BHA

Haydock Park have announced that two scheduled race days this weekend have been cancelled after the ground failed an inspection on Tuesday.

More Problems As Haydock Cancel Two Days Of Racing

Haydock’s two-day meeting scheduled for this Friday (29th May) and Saturday (30th May) has been abandoned after the inner track was found to be unsafe for racing.

The course held a three-day meeting last week with the first two days providing no issues on the inside course.

However, Saturday’s fixture was moved to the outer course and problems began in just the first race.

John & Thady Gosden’s horse Friendly Soul put her foot in a hole and was lucky to get away unharmed. Racing on the outer track was then abandoned.

The remainder of the races were switched to the inner course, but only sprint races were allowed.

This meant that just four of seven scheduled races took place.

Now their two-day meeting this weekend has been cancelled, so find their full statement below.

The ITV Racing schedule will be affected on Saturday, as two Group races from Haydock were due to air. Keep an eye out for updates on which races will replace them.

Haydock Release Statement On Cancelled Meeting

The following statement was released on Haydock’s social media platforms.

Fixtures scheduled to take place on Friday 29th and Saturday 30th May have been cancelled following Tuesday’s inspection of the inner course.

We had hoped to stage this weekend’s fixtures on the inner track after a hole appeared on the outer track during racing last Saturday.

However, given the three days of racing already staged on the inner track in recent days, the ground will not have the chance to recover to an acceptable standard for racing this weekend.

We are working with the BHA around next steps for the rescheduling of Friday and Saturday’s races and the BHA will issue further updates on this in due course.

We are sorry for the inconvenience that this will cause to participants and racegoers.

External drainage specialists and agronomists are on site at Haydock Park today (Tuesday) and investigations continue into the cause of the hole that appeared on the outer track during racing on Saturday 23rd May.
