How many English 1000 Guineas winners have won the Irish 1000 Guineas? As True Love bids to be the next

True Love Looking to Land Rare Guineas Double

Having won the English 1000 Guineas at Newmarket, TRUE LOVE provided trainer Aidan O’Brien with an eighth win in the race – and will be looking to add the Irish version to her Guineas CV at the Curragh on Sunday.

True Love powered home to win the 1000 Guineas by 1 3/4 lengths (watch below) under Wayne Lordan, with Precise and Ryan Moore back in 7th.

But the jockeys have switched mounts this time in the Irish 1000 Guineas, with Moore getting back on True Love and Lordan jocked-up on last season’s Fillies’ Mile winner Precise.

There was 5-lengths between the two that day, but with True Love having had the benefit of a run (1st Leopardstown) and Precise having his seasonal reappearance at Newmarket – then many feel the gap won’t be a big this time.

That said, True Love is still the clear favourite in the Irish 1000 Guineas betting odds market on Sunday as she looks to win for a third time this season.

However, those against True Love might look to the fact there’s not been many double Guineas winners in recent times.

Just FOUR English and Irish 1000 Guineas Winners Since 2004

Okay, the last seven English 1000 Guineas winners didn’t head to the Curragh – but it’s still slightly surprising that we’ve only had FOUR double Guineas winners since Attraction in 2004.

Especially as there’s around three weeks between the races and plenty of time for horses to recover.

Since the Mark Johnston-trained Attraction did the double just over 20 years ago – there have only been three more.

Finsceal Beo landed the two races in 2007 for trainer Jim Bolger.

While it’s no shock that Aidan O’Brien has been responsible for the last two.

Winter in 2017 and the most recent Guineas double heroine – Hermosa – in 2019.

Of these four Guineas double winner, Winter also went onto land the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot the following month.

Which is something True Love could also try if winning Sunday’s Irish 1000 Guineas – she’s already as short as 7/4 for the Ascot race on Friday 19th June.
