Aidan O’Brien has supplemented Mississippi River for this weekend’s Lockinge Stakes at Newbury.
Mississippi River Supplemented For Lockinge
Aidan O’Brien will be looking to continue his hot form at Newbury this weekend where the Lockinge Stakes takes centre stage.
Already with The Lion In Winter and Expanded entered, the Ballydoyle maestro has now supplemented Mississippi River, who is likely in there to be a pacemaker.
He’s ran twice this season so far, most recently just yesterday at Leopardstown, finishing seventh of eight.
It’s fair to say that Mississippi River hasn’t lived up to his £850,000 price tag as a yearling, only winning three times from four starts.
His last win came at Tipperary last August where he won just €10,030.

Mississippi River Likely In There To Set Pace For The Lion In Winter
It looks set to be a season of pacemaking for the Lope De Vega colt, who was actually due to be sold by Coolmore last year.
He was put up at the Tatts Autumn Horses In Training sale and was originally purchased – but his purchaser withdrew for unknown reasons.
Coolmore looked to cut their losses and get rid of him, but now he’ll be a likely pacemaker in Group 1s for stronger stablemates through the 2026 season.
THE LION IN WINTER is one of two other O’Brien horses in the Lockinge and he made a winning return at Leopardstown last month.
That was actually his first win since his two-year-old campaign, but he was placed in hot Group 1 races across three different countries last season.
He was a solid third in the Breeders’ Cup Mile at Del Mar and runner-up in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot on Champions Day.
You can watch all the action unfold live on ITV Racing this Saturday at Newbury.
How Many Times Has Aidan O’Brien Won The Lockinge?
The Lockinge is a race that O’Brien hasn’t been too successful in, only winning it twice.
Hawk Wing was his first Lockinge winner in 2003 and Rhododendron was his most recent in 2018.
This year’s renewal will be the first time he’s had runners in the Newbury feature since 2022 – when Baaeed won for William Haggas.
