Aidan O’Brien Looking For First Dante Win Since 2010

CHRISTMAS DAY is the current favourite to land the Dante Stakes prize money, but his trainer Aidan O’Brien will be searching for his first Dante winner since 2010.

If he is successful this year, he’ll have won the race for a fifth time. Cape Blanco was his last winner in 2010, and Black Bear Island won it for the yard in 2009 as well.

2006 saw Septimus win and the 1998 renewal was won by Saratoga Springs.

Christmas Day seems like a horse on an upwards curve though, and made an encouraging reappearance when landing a Group 3 at Leopardstown.

It took the son of Camelot three starts to get off the mark, but after winning a Gowran Park maiden, he took a step up in class well in his stride. And that win at Leopardstown saw his price shorten in the Epsom Derby betting odds.

However, for Christmas Day to win, O’Brien’s poor Dante record in recent years must come to an end. See all of his Dante runners & results below.

11 Dante Winners Went On To Win The Epsom Derby

The Dante has been a steady trial for the Derby over the years, with 11 winners of the York Group 2 going on to record success at Epsom.

Desert Crown was the last horse to do the famous double for Sir Michael Stoute – who is the joint-leading trainer in the Dante alongside Sir Henry Cecil with seven wins.

Who Won The 2025 Dante?

Last year’s Dante was won by PRIDE OF ARRAS for trainer Ralph Beckett and he was ridden by Rossa Ryan.

However after winning at York, he would produce two horrendous performances in both the English and Irish Derby.

He finished 17th of 18 at Epsom, and 10th 0f 10 at the Curragh.
