Newmarket ITV Horse Racing Tips On Sunday: Prettiest Star To Shine In Guineas

1:45 – Oliver Brown Pretty Polly Stakes (Listed Race) (Fillies) Cl1 (3yo) 1m2f ITV

The fillies get us going on Sunday in the Pretty Polly Stakes, and I think the one with the most ‘girl power’ can be SACRED GROUND.

This John & Thady Gosden runner has 14lbs to find on the ratings with the Brian Meehan-trained Esna.

However, I think it’s interesting this powerful yard are pitching this Kingman filly at this level after only two runs.

Who also still holds an Oaks entry.

She was last seen running second here on the Rowley Mile last November after a good win on debut at Yarmouth.

Another winter would have strengthened her up and the final plus is the good record the Gosden’s have in this race.

They’ve  won two of the last three and taken the pot five times since 2016.

🥇SACRED GROUND
🥈ESNA
🥉LILT

2:20 – Betfred Dahlia Stakes (Group 2) (Fillies & Mares) Cl1 (4yo+) 1m1f ITV

Cathedral is the top-rated (113) and should be popping up in a race like this soon – having run well in Group One races last season.

However, this 4yold has been very expensive to follow and her only win remains on debut in a maiden at Lingfield on the AW.

FALAKEYAH landed the Pretty Polly last season and is noted too. As is Sand Gazelle and Chantilly Lace.

There is, however, a draw stat in this race that tells us ALL of the last 10 winners hailed from gates 1 to 4.

So, a chance is taken on the potential improver in the race – STATERIA (NR), who has gate 2.

This Andrew Balding runner heads here after two wins on the AW in handicaps so up significantly in class here (G2).

But has been winning well, Oisin Murphy rides and with those recent runs will be fitter than most.

🥇FALAKEYAH
🥈CATHEDRAL
🥉SAND GAZELLE

2:55 – Betfred Handicap (Heritage Handicap) (GBBPlus Race) Cl2 (4yo+) 1m6f ITV

Next up on 1000 Guineas day are the staying handicappers – with many familiar names on show here.

It looks an ultra-tough contest too.

The William Haggas yard are in fair form and run Dramatic Star, but he needs to bounce back from some recent average runs – maybe the first-time cheekpieces will help.

Many Men is the only course winner in the line-up and will be fitter for a recent 4th at Musselburgh after 6 months off.

Subsequent and Align The Stars are the only two last-time out winners too.

But a chance is taken on the Michael Bell runner YASHIN.

This 7yold often goes well fresh – winning the Sagaro Stakes first time out at Ascot last season – which was a Listed race and he’s back into a handicap here.

He also won first time out in 2023 and so this might be the right time to catch him. With the Bell camp also boasting 23% SR with their 4+yolds at this track – which is the best on offer from the yards in this contest.

🥇YASHIN (e/w)
🥈MANY MEN
🥉DRAMATIC STAR

3:35 – Betfred 1000 Guineas Stakes (Group 1) (Fillies) Cl1 (3yo) 1m ITV

Precise will be looking to give Aidan O’Brien his first 1000 Guineas win since Mother Earth in 2021.

And will also be looking to take the same path as last season’s winner Desert Flower, who also won the Fillies Mile in her career.

She had Venetian Sun back in 3rd that day and so there might not be a lot between them, but my concern with the Burke horse is the longer trip – all her runs to date have been over shorter.

O’Brien also has last season’s Queen Mary winner at Royal Ascot – True Love – but again, the trip is the worry with her.

Andre Fabre’s My Highness is respected for Godolphin with Oisin Murphy booked to ride too. She’s yet to finish out of the first two and looks as if the step up to a mile will suit.

The Prettiest Star Can Shine In Guineas

The 1000 Guineas trends also tell us 7 of the last 10 winners have been drawn low (8 or lower), so with that in mind – THE PRETTIEST STAR, from gate 4 gets the nod.

This Ed Walker runner caught my eye the last day when running on well to be second in the Rockfel Stakes over 7f here at HQ (watch below).

This suggests the step up in trip will suit her and the winner Zanthos looks useful, so I think that form looks okay translated to here.

She also had Touleen back in 5th that day and with only two career runs you can expect The Prettiest Star to have plenty of sparkle still to come.

🥇THE PRETTIEST STAR
🥈MY HIGHNESS
🥉VENETIAN SUN
