Exclusive: Michael Owen Compares Brown Panther To Frankel & Talks Footballers In Horse Racing

Speaking exclusively to ReadHorseRacing.com, Michael Owen made comparisons between Brown Panther and Frankel. He also spoke about footballers owning horses.

Brown Panther Raced All Over The World, Frankel Didn’t – Michael Owen

Represnting Casino.org, a leading platform helping players find UK casino brands, Michael Owen spoke exclusively to Read Horse Racing.

Brown Panther was owned by Michael Owen and was one of the best long-distance horses of his generation. He looked back on those memories and made comparisons to Frankel.

The son of Shirocco won the Dubai Gold Cup at Meydan, which was his biggest payday ever.

He was also a winner of the Irish St Leger in 2014 but tragically suffered a fatal injury in the same race 12 months later.

RHR: It’s been over 10 years since Brown Panther, who won over £1m – do you think you’ll ever get one like him again?

Michael Owen: I don’t think so no in one respect. The horse won and travelled all over the globe to race and this is what made Brown Panther so special.

If you look at Frankel, who was a very special horse, he only raced in the UK, and was an incredible horse. But for Brown Panther, we raced at Breeders’ Cup, also other top races around the world, so being involved in the horse and being able to race in top races around the world was brilliant.

Owen mentioned Andy Robertson had recently got involved with a horse trained at Manor House Stables and he also mentioned some other footballers involved with his horses.

RHR: Have you managed to attract any fellow former (or current) footballers into the world of horse racing ownership?

MO:Well, funny you should ask that question. I already mentioned Andy Robertson, who has a horse with us, but others who have entered horse racing ownership with us include Andy Townsend, Anthony Gordon, Sir Alex Ferguson, Steve McManaman, plus the whole Brighton team who have a horse with us.

In particular Brighton own Hugo Palmer-trained horse Seagulls Eleven who was a Group 3 winner at Goodwood last season. He also ran in the Breeders’ Cup as a two-year-old and contested the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket last season.
