Sandown Horse Racing Tips: Zeus Olympios To Demote Field Of Gold To Silver

1:50 Sandown: bet365 Esher Cup Handicap Cl2 (3yo 0-100) 1m ITV4

The Gosden camp took this race 12 months ago with Fifth Column and with the yard in-form can follow-up.

They run Wathnan Racing’s ORGANISE this time, who I’ve been impressed with when winning at Southwell and Yarmouth.

Both times this Night Of Thunder colt was well-backed in the betting (favourite both times) and looks ready for the step up in grade.

While the horse he beat into third on debut Breathe Easy, who re-opposes, has won twice since to bolster the form.

Organise can get all his ducks in-a-row here.

🥇ORGANISE
🥈NOBODY KNOWS
🥉LOOK TO THE STARS

Key Stats 📈

  • The John & Thady Gosden yard won this race last season
  • 6 of the last 8 winners from stalls 5 (3) or 7 (3)
  • The last two favourites have won
  • 6 of the last 7 winners SP’d 11/2 or shorter

2:25 Sandown: bet365 Gordon Richards Stakes (Group 3) Cl1 (4yo+) 1m2f ITV4

Based on the ratings, this really should be going to the Andrew Balding-trained ALMERIC – getting in here off a mark 5lbs higher than the next best.

This Study Of Man colt improved last season to win two Listed races at HQ and Ayr but wasn’t disgraced when highly-tried in the Champion Stakes at Ascot back in October (9th).

Eased from the top table level to a Group 3 today will be a big plus and the Andrew Balding team continue to be in great form with 52 winners already this year.

Ryan Moore, who has won this race three times since 2018, has been booked to ride the Karl Burke-trained King Of Cities and can give the pick most to think about.

🥇ALMERIC
🥈KING OF CITIES
🥉DEVIL’S ADVOCATE

Key Stats 📈

  • The Gosden yard have won 2 of the last 4 runnings
  • 4 winning favourites in the last 6 years
  • 7 of the last 8 winners aged 4 or 5
  • Ryan Moore has ridden 3 of the last 6 winners

3:00 Sandown: bet365 Mile (Group 2) Cl1 (4yo+) 1m ITV4

Back in grade and being the clear top-rated here, then the good-looking grey Field Of Gold should really be taking this.

He impressed in the Irish 2000 Guineas and St James’s Palace Stakes last season, but the niggle would be his next two runs.

Yes, he was found to be lame after his odds-on Sussex Stakes defeat – but after 2 1/2 months off also ran flat in the QEII Stakes at Ascot.

Therefore, at the prices, a chance is taken on Karl Burke’s unbeaten colt ZEUS OLYMPIOS, who heads here 4-from-4.

He was last seen slamming another runner in this race Opera Ballo by 2 1/2 lengths in the Joel Stakes at Newmarket last September (watch below) and meets that horse on 2lbs better terms.

Suggesting, despite the Godolphin horse winning a G1 since. I think the pick can uphold that form.

He’s another that Karl Burke has booked Ryan Moore to ride, which is the icing on the cake – but it won’t be easy having to also give 3lbs away to Field Of Gold.

In, short – at the prices I’m not sure Field Of Gold is much value – despite having 8lbs in-hand. Mainly due to having to bounce back after his recent runs.

I’ll take Olympios to take ‘Gold’.

🥇ZEUS OLYMPIOS
🥈FIELD OF GOLD
🥉OPERA BALLO

Key Stats 📈

  • 3 of the last 4 winners came from stall 1
  • 6 winning favourites in last 8
  • 8 of the last 9 winners returned 9/2 or shorter
  • Dancing Gemini won the race last year

3:35 Sandown: bet365 Classic Trial (Group 3) Cl1 (3yo) 1m2f ITV4

A race the Aidan O’Brien yard won last season and it’s interesting this is the ONLY horse they are sending over to this meeting.

ACTION will be flying the Ballydoyle flag this time and sets a fair standard after running 3rd to 2000 Guineas fancy Bow Echo last season in the Royal Lodge.

He then ran his stablemate Hawk Mountain to 1/2 a-length in the Futurity Trophy at Doncaster back in October.

While this Frankel colt looks the sort to improve further now upped in trip (1m2f), with the first-time tongue-tie also interesting for me.

Ryan Moore rides, on what could be a good afternoon for former champ.

Of the rest, the unbeaten pair of Raaheeb and Wise Prince fall into the ‘could be anything’ category.

🥇ACTION
🥈WISE PRINCE
🥉RAAHEEB

Key Stats 📈

  • Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore won the race last season
  • The Gosden yard have won 2 of the last 7
  • No winner from stall 1 in the last 9 runnings
  • 7 of the last 8 winners returned 5/1 or shorter
