Jump Jockeys Championship Winners: Sean Bowen To Be Crowned At Sandown

After another fantastic season of riding from Sean Bowen, he’ll be retain his crown and become one of the best back-t0-back Jump Jockeys Championship winners.

Jump Jockeys Championship Winners: Sean Bowen Goes Back-To-Back

With over 230 winners so far this season, Sean Bowen will be crowned Champion Jump Jockey for a second year in a row at Sandown on Saturday, after destroying his rivals.

Infact, Bowen has got over 100 more than Dan Skelton who is second in the standings.

Although it’s also worth noting that Bowen has had over 980 rides for the season – operating at a 25% strike rate.

The Welshman could become the winning-most Bet365 Gold Cup jockey this Saturday, the same day where he will be presented with his trophy.

Bowen has struck up a strong partnership with Olly Murphy in recent years, who has also had a brilliant season himself. Their season could be topped off on Saturday if Resplendent Grey was able to win the Bet365 Gold Cup for a second year in a row.

You’ll be able to watch all of Sandown’s action unfold live on ITV Racing this Saturday.

Bowen became Champion Jockey for the first time last season and will join the illustrious list of back-to-back winners that includes the likes of AP McCoy and John Francome.

Two of his biggest wins of the season came aboard Haiti Couleurs, winning the Welsh Grand National in December and then the Grade 2 Denman Chase in February.

Tony McCoy Was Greatest Champion Jump Jockey Ever

AP McCoy Won 20 Jump Jockey Championships

AP McCoy Won 20 Jump Jockey Championships

AP (Tony) McCoy holds the record for the most ever Champion Jumps Jockey titles with 20 wins. Known as one of the greatest jockeys of all time, it’s hard to see anyone beating that record.

And those wins came consecutively. He won the Championship 20 years in a row from 1995-2015 and Bowen is eyeing a similar success to McCoy – but not for most titles won.

It’s unlikely that Bowen will win 20 championships, but he says that next season he wants to beat McCoy’s record of 289 winners in one season.

He currently has 233 wins at the time of writing, and could edge closer to 250 winners by the time Sandown’s card concludes on Saturday afternoon.
