Bet365 Gold Cup Marks End Of National Hunt Season

Sandown’s Bet365 meeting is one of the biggest days on the National Hunt calendar as it brings the end to another season of British jumps.

As well as the feature Bet365 Gold Cup, horse racing fans can also watch the Celebration Chase on the ITV Racing Schedule – taking place on Saturday 25th April.

Not only are we treated to jumps action, this Sandown meeting also features flat racing.

The Gordon Richards Stakes and the Sandown Mile take place on the Friday, whilst the National Hunt finale is on the Saturday.

Who Won The 2025 Bet365 Gold Cup?

The 2025 Bet365 Gold Cup was won by RESPLENDENT GREY, who holds an entry for the race once again this year.

Olly Murphy’s runner has not quite been in the same form this season and was well beaten in the Ultima at Cheltenham when seen last.

Rated 10lb higher this time around, the handicapper may have found him out. Although if you do fancy him to win the race, it’s worth noting that he’s had a very similar preparation.

After winning last year’s race at Sandown, Resplendent Grey was set to be campaigned for a Grand National – but in the end he didn’t go for the Aintree spectacle.

The Bet365 Gold Cup can often be a pointer to next season, so keep an eye out as we could see some potential 2027 Grand National runners in action.

2026 Bet365 Gold Cup Likely Runners & Main Players

There are plenty of horses currently in the betting that won’t be running, with some double-entered in the Scottish Grand National, but there are a few that are likely to turn up.

Nicky Henderson’s HYLAND is a likely runner next week and he’s had a relatively quiet season. He’s also 2lb below his last winning mark so could be well handicapped enough to feature here.

LIVIN ON LUCO was a solid fourth in the Welsh Grand National back in December and dropping back down to three-and-half miles can suit. He also ran in the Eider Chase at Newcastle in February but seemed to be streched by that longer trip.

ROAD TO HOME is the only Willie Mullins horse entered in the Scottish Grand National – but if he doesn’t turn up at Ayr I’d fancy him to run well in this. He ran his best race yet in the Kim Muir at Cheltenham when seen last and would appreciate an extra couple of furlongs.

Since joining Fergal O’Brien out of the David Maxwell dispersal sale in November, IN D’OR has been given an easy time of things and looks interesting if turning up here. He’s been off since January but he can go well fresh and wouldn’t be written off.

DARTMOOR PIRATE never travelled last time at Doncaster and unseated two fences out but his win at that track on his penultimate start was impressive. If he ran in this race to any kind of form shown that day he could go close.
