Scottish Grand National Runners, Jockey Colours, Profiles and Star Ratings

See below the ReadHorseRacing Scottish Grand National jockey colours guide to help quickly see your fancied runners ahead of Saturday’s big race at Ayr racecourse.

With a maximum of 25 runners lining up for Ayr steeplechase, picking out the horse you’ve backed isn’t always straightforward.

That’s why it pays to familiarise yourself with the Scottish Grand National jockey colours beforehand—making your fancy easier to identify ahead of the ITV Racing scheduled race.

Then keep an eye out at the start and follow them as best you can throughout the full 4m 2½f trip and 30 fences.

Who will land the £100k Scottish Grand National prize money in 2026?

It could be a Willie Mullins-trained runner again – as he’s landed the last two renewals of the Ayr race.

Or will we see the first outright winning Grand National favourite since 1999?

But you can see all the profiles, odds, jockeys, trainers and the Read Horse Racing STAR RATINGS below to help out a Scottish Grand National bet.

💡Top Tip: If an owner has two or more runners, the jockey silks and colours will feature different caps to help tell them apart.

Scottish Grand National Jockey Colours and Runners Guide 2026

1. BLAZE THE WAY

  • Age: 8
  • Weight: 12st
  • Trainer: Ms Margaret Mullins
  • Jockey: TBC
  • Rating: 145
  • Odds: 18/1

📝Comment: Top weight (12st) that will be looking to carry the biggest winning burden since Playlord won with the maximum weight in 1969.

From the Margaret Mullins yard in Ireland and was last seen running 7th in the Ultima Handicap Chase at the Cheltenham Festival in March.

Was also a good winner at the Cheltenham December Meeting earlier this season – beating the classy L’Homme Presse, but is now rated 7lbs higher.

Certainly capable, but weight stops trains.

Star Rating: ⭐⭐⭐

2. QUBECOIS

  • Age: 7
  • Weight: 11-13
  • Trainer: Paul Nicholls
  • Jockey: TBC
  • Rating: 144
  • Odds: 9/1

📝Comment: From the Paul Nicholls yard that won the Scottish National three times. This lightly-raced chaser has only run over the bigger obstacles five times but is yet to score.

However, went close last time with a 3/4-length third in the Ultima Handicap Chase at the Cheltenham Festival – and that form has been boosted with the 3rd Johnnywho running 4th in the last week’s Grand National.

Another with a big weight and his lack of a win over fences is the worry. But a classy stayer in the making the the longer trip could see some more improvement.

Star Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

3. KING OF ANSWERS

  • Age: 7
  • Weight: 11-12
  • Trainer: Lucinda Russell & Michael Scudamore
  • Jockey: TBC
  • Rating: 143
  • Odds: 6/1

📝Comment: Yet another that ran at the Cheltenham Festival the last day – when taking a silver in the NH Chase, beaten just 5 1/2 lengths behind Holloway Queen.

Up 3lbs for that and should have more to come with just five career runs over fences (2 wins).

Runs as if this longer trip will suit and the Lucinda Russell yard know how to win this race – taking the pot in 2021 with Mighty Thunder.

Another with a big weight (11-12) but progressive and one of the likely favourites.

King Of Answers will certainly be the Scottish Grand National solution for many.

Star Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

4. ISAAC DES OBEAUX

  • Age: 8
  • Weight: 11-8
  • Trainer: Paul Nicholls
  • Jockey: TBC
  • Rating: 139
  • Odds: 10/1

📝Comment: The second of the Paul Nicholls Scottish Grand National runners in the race and has a similar looking chance and profile to Quebecois.

He heads here with proven stamina though, having landed the Midlands National last month.

Is up 7lbs for that Uttoxeter win, which looks fair (8 lengths) and will be looking to become the first horse since Young Kenny (1999) to win both races in the same season.

Should have more to come with only eight runs over fences (2 wins) and has only been out of the top five over the bigger obstacles once.

Star Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

5. OUR POWER

  • Age: 11
  • Weight: 11-6
  • Trainer: Sam Thomas
  • Jockey: TBC
  • Rating: 137
  • Odds: 20/1

📝Comment: Ran 3rd in the 2025 Scottish Grand National and is back rated 6lbs lower.

Not getting any younger at 11 though and hasn’t won since taking the Coral Trophy at Kempton in 2023 (10 runs without a win).

We’ve had three winning 11yolds since 2009.

Freshened up with 93 days off, but the big race trends tell us all of the last 22 winners ran in the last 57 days.

Overall, has proven form in the race and is well-treated, but hard to win with so a place option might be the better play.

Star Rating: ⭐⭐

6. ROAD TO HOME

  • Age: 7
  • Weight: 11-6
  • Trainer: Willie Mullins
  • Jockey: TBC
  • Rating: 137
  • Odds: 8/1

📝Comment: The sole Scottish Grand National runner from the Willie Mullins yard – so is sure to attract a lot of interest with the stable winning the last two.

Last seen running a close second in the Kim Muir to Ask Brewster at the Cheltenham Festival – but is 8lbs better off this time.

Therefore, should be reversing that form, but is another that is yet to win over fences (5 runs).

Two of the last three winners have been aged 7 too and no shock to see this one supported in the build-up to the race coming from this powerful yard.

Star Rating: ⭐

7. GUARD THE MOON

  • Age: 8
  • Weight: 11-5
  • Trainer: Nigel & Willy Twiston-Davies
  • Jockey: TBC
  • Rating: 136
  • Odds: 33/1

📝Comment: From the Twiston-Davies camp that have three Scottish Grand National wins on their CV over the years – the most recent Hello Bud in 2007.

This 8yold has a very in-and-out profile this season – either winning or pulling up, so if that sequence carries on here, he’ll be winning this!

But, joking aside, does need to bounce back from failing to complete last time in the NH Chase at the Cheltenham Festival and unproven over this far.

Overall, from a top yard with pedigree in this race but stamina reserves are untested.

Star Rating: ⭐⭐

8. HERAKLES WESTWOOD

  • Age: 9
  • Weight: 11-5
  • Trainer: Warren Greatrex
  • Jockey: TBC
  • Rating: 136
  • Odds: 20/1

📝Comment: Another that raced at the Cheltenham Festival – when 13th (of 23) in the Kim Muir – so has 27 lengths to make up on that running.

But did win well on New Year’s Day at Cheltenham – beating another runner here Katate Dori by 1/2 a length.

Is back down to that last winning mark and with that recent run his first after a wind op, then could just improve for the run.

Needs to bounce back, but probably worse 20/1 shots in the race.

Star Rating: ⭐⭐⭐

9. ASK BREWSTER

  • Age: 7
  • Weight: 11-4
  • Trainer: Mrs C Williams
  • Jockey: TBC
  • Rating: 135
  • Odds: 10/1

📝Comment: From the Cath Williams (Evan Williams) yard and was a gutsy winner of the Kim Muir at Cheltenham last time.

Up 7lbs for that though and the jockey this time can’t claim 7lbs this time either.

Meaning he’s a lot worse off at the weights with the second Road To Home and 4th Kim Roque.

On a plus, does head here having won 50% of his 10 starts over fences so knows how to get the job done and has won over 3m4f in the past so the trip should be within range.

Promising stayer with stamina assured, but is the handicapper starting to catch up with him?

Star Rating: ⭐⭐⭐

10. DUFFLE COAT

  • Age: 9
  • Weight: 11-4
  • Trainer: Gordon Elliott
  • Jockey: TBC
  • Rating: 135
  • Odds: 40/1

📝Comment: Top Irish trainer Gordon Elliott has won most Nationals – but is yet to land the Scottish one.

He tries to put that right here with Duffle Coat, who was pulled up in the Irish National last time at Fairyhouse.

This grey is now 12 races without a win and having failed to complete in 3 of this last 5, then it’s hard to support this Irish raider with much confidence.

Star Rating: ⭐

11. KATATE DORI

  • Age: 8
  • Weight: 11-4
  • Trainer: Sam Thomas
  • Jockey: TBC
  • Rating: 135
  • Odds: 22/1

📝Comment: Could be the second runner in the race for the Sam Thomas yard.

Last in action running 8th (of 13) in the Ladbrokes Trophy at Kempton in February – a race he won the season before in 2025 – and only down a pound from that 2026 spin.

Was also 6th in the Coral Gold Cup to Panic Attack and is 2lbs lower from that run.

Never raced beyond 3m 2f, but has won over that trip in heavy ground so there is hope he’ll stay 4m.

Overall, another in-and-out performer that is still running 10lbs higher than his last win.

Star Rating: ⭐⭐

12. STOLEN SILVER

  • Age: 11
  • Weight: 11-2
  • Trainer: Georgina Nicholls
  • Jockey: TBC
  • Rating: 133
  • Odds: 66/1

📝Comment: 18 runs over fences with just three wins and his last win came back in October 2023.

Ran desperately in the Ultima at Cheltenham, beaten 46 lengths – although the winner went on to finish fourth in Grand National.

Likely to be found out once again barring his first try at four miles brings out considerable improvement.

Star Rating: ⭐

13. FAMOUS BRIDGE

  • Age: 10
  • Weight: 11-1
  • Trainer: Nicky Richards
  • Jockey: Sean Quinlan
  • Rating: 132
  • Odds: 33/1

📝Comment: Didn’t run too badly in the Cross Country at Cheltenham when finishing seventh of 14.

Was pulled up in this race last year but could have each-way claims if the ground doesn’t dry out too much.

His trainer Nicky Richards couldn’t be in better from with seven winners from his last nine runners. Could be the time to catch him.

Star Rating: ⭐⭐⭐

14. MONREGARD

  • Age: 7
  • Weight: 11-1
  • Trainer: Tom Lacey
  • Jockey: TBC
  • Rating: 132
  • Odds: 10/1

📝Comment: One of the younger runners in the field who has progressed nicely as a three-mile chaser this season.

Won a decent handicap at Ascot in February and has been off since but he’s a good jumper and can relish this test.

Possibly been targeted at this race and should go very well, looks well handicapped based on that win last time out.

Star Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

15. MAXIMILIAN

  • Age: 10
  • Weight: 11-1
  • Trainer: Donald McCain
  • Jockey: Theo Gillard
  • Rating: 132
  • Odds: 33/1

📝Comment: Fairly consistent performer who doesn’t have many miles on the clock for a 10-year-old.

Was a solid novice-hurdler before a long time off the track, hasn’t won over fences but only has five runs.

Should get the trip after running well over three-and-half miles at Haydock, not written off.

Star Rating: ⭐⭐⭐

16. GABBYS CROSS

  • Age: 11
  • Weight: 11-0
  • Trainer: Nick Scholfield
  • Jockey: TBC
  • Rating: 131
  • Odds: 40/1

📝Comment: Yet to win since leaving Henry de Bromhead’s yard but has ran well on his last two starts.

Unseated in 2023 Aintree Grand National and did run well for most of that race.

Probably stays four miles but wouldn’t be the obvious choice. Likely to be outclassed.

Star Rating: ⭐⭐

17. KIM ROQUE

  • Age: 6
  • Weight: 10-13
  • Trainer: Joseph O’Brien
  • Jockey: TBC
  • Rating: 130
  • Odds: 5/1

📝Comment: Been very well backed in the ante-post market and this six-year-old is very unexposed.

Ran well when stepping up to 3m+ in the Kim Muir at Cheltenham and looked every bit of a stayer. Solid form in early season handicaps too.

It would be dangerous to rule him out and his trainer’s horses are going well. Big player if 4m doesn’t come too soon in his career.

Star Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

18. COLLECTORS ITEM

  • Age: 9
  • Weight: 10-13
  • Trainer: Jonjo & AJ O’Neill
  • Jockey: TBC
  • Rating: 130
  • Odds: 40/1

📝Comment: Has been badly out of form since running well on his seasonal reappearance at Chepstow.

Has been pulled up in a couple of ‘marathon’ races but probably will stay the trip.

Ran well at three-and-a-half miles before and could take advantage of a dropping mark.

If jumps well, he has place claims.

Star Rating: ⭐⭐⭐

19. GIT MAKER

  • Age: 10
  • Weight: 10-12
  • Trainer: Jamie Snowden
  • Jockey: TBC
  • Rating: 129
  • Odds: 16/1

📝Comment: Has been in decent form in 2026, running well in two long-distance races.

Best of those efforts was last time in the Midlands National at Uttoxeter when finishing third.

Was a solid third in this race two years ago and is 4lb lower this time around and he looks like a strong candidate.

Looked to be a force of old on his last two starts.

Star Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

20. KAP VERT

  • Age: 6
  • Weight: 10-12
  • Trainer: Philip Hobbs & Johnson White
  • Jockey: TBC
  • Rating: 129
  • Odds: 25/1

📝Comment: Has really appreciated stepping up to three miles and returned from a short break to win well at Taunton latest.

Wouldn’t be the obvious one for this trip at his age and seems like three miles has been perfect.

Yard had a good year but possibly need to look elsewhere.

Star Rating: ⭐⭐

21. VAL DANCER

  • Age: 9
  • Weight: 10-10
  • Trainer: Mel Rowley
  • Jockey: Charlie Hammond
  • Rating: 127
  • Odds: 25/1

📝Comment: Seems an age ago since he won the Welsh Grand National in 2024.

Only ran well probably once since and that was over the Grand National fences at Aintree.

Pulled up in a poor race at Bangor last time. Would want more rain here but has won on good-to-soft before.

While has finished in the top three in 10 of his 14 starts over fences.

So based on that and his proven stamina, small e/w claims.

Star Rating: ⭐⭐

22.  PROMONTORY

  • Age: 9
  • Weight: 10-10
  • Trainer: Sarah Joanna Connell
  • Jockey: TBC
  • Rating: 127
  • Odds: 25/1

📝Comment: Irish raider who won the Dublin National at Punchestown last time out in fine fashion.

Whilst this is tougher, he’s totally unexposed over the trip and could play a part for this small yard.

Place chance and seems versatile ground wise.

Star Rating: ⭐⭐⭐

23. CHASINGOUTTHEBLUES

  • Age: 7
  • Weight: 10-9
  • Trainer: Mark Walford
  • Jockey: Jamie Hamilton
  • Rating: 126
  • Odds: 12/1

📝Comment: Won a valuable Series Final at Carlisle last time out and that was his third win in his last four starts.

Wouldn’t be the classiest sort on paper but there’s a good chance he’ll stay.

In a rich vein of form and can’t be ruled out on this step up in trip.

Star Rating: ⭐⭐⭐

24. J’ARRIVE DE L’EST

  • Age: 7
  • Weight: 10-9
  • Trainer: Emmet Mullins
  • Jockey: TBC
  • Rating: 126
  • Odds: 14/1

📝Comment: Makes just his fourth start for Emmet Mullins.

Didn’t land the money when being well backed in two Cross Country races at Cheltenham (finished second both times.)

Pulled up in the Midlands National on his latest start but runs off the same mark here.

Could be naive to rule out a revival for this shrewd outfit.

Star Rating: ⭐⭐⭐

25. MAGNA SAM

  • Age: 12
  • Weight: 10-1
  • Trainer: Alastair Ralph
  • Jockey: TBC
  • Rating: 118
  • Odds: 66/1

📝Comment: Pulled up in this race last year and had just two starts since.

Heavily beaten on both of those starts and arrives here after having wind surgery in January.

Been off since December and it’s hard seeing him run well. Did win Edinburgh National in 2025 though.

Star Rating: ⭐
