Grand National Day Lucky 15 Tips – Best Bets For ITV Racing
I’m giving four more selections on the final day of the Grand National meeting at Aintree. With the four horses below, I’ll be playing an each-way Lucky 15.
Also, check out Andy Newton’s Grand National day tips with selections in every race live on ITV Racing
1:20 Aintree – William Hill Handicap Hurdle: JERIKO DU REPONET
JERIKO DU REPONET reverts back to hurdles after another unsuccessful stint over fences and I think he’s the one to be with here.
His last two runs over hurdles set him apart from most of his rivals here – including that listed win at Punchestown over three miles.
I don’t think carrying topweight should hinder him too much and I like the fact that connections have decided to go back hurdling as it’s clearly where he’s at his best.
He ran no race when sent off favourite for the Kim Muir at Cheltenham but this is more up his street and he won’t mind the ground.
Rated 8lbs higher than the last time he ran over hurdles but I think he could still be well handicapped.
1:55 Aintree – Mersey Novcies’ Hurdle (Grade 1, 2m4f): BALLYFAD
BALLYFAD contested a strong Turners at Cheltenham and I would say this is a much easier assignment.
And although he finished 10th, he was only beaten by just over seven lengths so it wasn’t that bad a run on paper.
His trainer Gordon Elliott also has a very strong record in this contest, winning the last four renewals so you have to trust Ballyfad has a great chance.
He came second at the DRF on bottomless ground and I think the conditions will see him much to much better effect today and he can bounce back from that Cheltenham run.
Aintree should suit well and I think he’ll appreciate the return to a flat track.
2:30 Aintree – William Hill Handicap Chase (Class 1, 3m1f): CRUZ CONTROL
CRUZ CONTROL had an almost identical prep for this last year and he’s searching for a third straight win in the race.
Backing horses like this usually wouldn’t be my cup of tea but I think the handicapper has been very lenient and he’s only 1lb higher than when winning the contest last year.
He’s ran pretty bad on both runs this season but he’s been kept fresh enough for a hat-trick bid.
I’m not put off by the fact that he was pulled-up when seen last because he was also pulled up en route to winning the race last season and he’s the type to bounce back.
I think he’s solid here as Tom Lacey looks to become the join-leading trainer in the race.
4:05 Aintree – Randox Grand National (Class 1, 4m 2 1/2f): OSCARS BROTHER
The main event is upon us and I think OSCARS BROTHER is a fascinating JP McManus Grand National runner and looks like one who will love this test.
Connor King’s runner is totally unexposed and holds some good form behind him.
He beat Koktail Divin earlier on in the season who bolted up in the Manifesto on the opening day of this meeting. I think the form of the Brown Advisory he finished fourth in at Cheltenham will stack up too.
Carrying just 10-13 I think he can mix his stamina and top jumping to have a real good crack at the race. And the Grand National trends say being an eight-year-old is a positive.
Oscars Brother winning this would be a true fairytale for a yard with only a few horses and there’s a good chance he’ll stay the trip.
That concludes are Grand National Lucky 15 Tips for day three of the meeting.
Aintree Grand National Lucky 15 Tips On Day Three
- 1:20 – Jeriko Du Reponet @ 12/1
- 1:55 – Ballyfad @ 7/2
- 2:30 – Cruz Control @ 6/1
- 4:00 – Oscars Brother @ 14/1
Placing a 50p each-way Lucky 15 (total £15) on our selections would return over £5,000 if all four horses win.
