With 30 runners heading to post for the Easter Monday feature at Fairyhouse, one of the best ways to find the winner is use the key Irish Grand National trends.

So to help – Andy Newton’s got the best stats to apply to the final runners, which will showcase the horses with the best profiles based on previous winners – putting history on your side.

For example – the last 11 winners were ALL aged 9 or younger, while only THREE horses since 2001 carried to win the Irish Grand National prize money.

What’s The Best Irish Grand National Age?

With 86% of the last 22 Irish Grand National winners aged 9 or less – this has been a profitable angle when trying to narrow down the runners.

The last double-figure aged winner was Liberty Counsel in 2013, while since 2005 – there’s only been two winners aged older than 9.

With over this period a fair spread of horses aged 6 to 9 – which seems the best place to focus your search.

Last year’s winner Haiti Couleurs was aged 8.

Look For Horses Weighted 10st 13lbs Or LESS

Being a handicap, then weight carried is the next Irish Grand National trend to look at.

And with the race being run over 3m5f, then history tells us horses carrying big weights have struggled a bit.

Yes, two of the last three winners carried 11st 1lb or more – but like the age stat, 86% of the last 22 Irish Grand National winners still carried 10st 13lbs or less.

Haiti Couleurs in 2025 was bang-on this weight stat, winning with 10st 13lbs.

You can take this weight stat a bit further too, as 16 of the last 22 winners (73%) carried 10st 8lbs.

While 13 of the last 22 (59%) only had 10st 6lbs on their backs.

How Have The Irish Grand National Favourites Fared?

Over last the last 22 runnings of the race, we’ve seen 13 favourites unplaced.

And 50% of the last 22 winners returned 20/1+ with the average winning SP 25/1.

But actual winning favourites don’t have the best of records.

Since 2003, there’s only been THREE winning market leaders in the Irish Grand National.

With none in the last five runnings and the last winning jolly Burrows Saint in 2019 (6/1 fav).

Gordon Elliott Has Only Won The Irish Grand National Once

Trainer Willie Mullins has won two of the last six Irish Grand Nationals – with Burrows Saint and I Am Maximus, who went onto win the Aintree Grand National.

While the other big Irish training powerhouse – Gordon Elliott – won the race in 2018 with General Principle.

However, it might be slightly surprising to hear that that win for Elliott was his sole success in the Fairyhouse race.
