Jockey Jack Mitchell has been ruled out of action for at least five weeks with a shoulder injury, as reported on the Racing Post.

The 30-year-old has been struggling with the shoulder problem for some time now and decided to undergo surgery in an attempt to cure it.

As a result of the surgery, Mitchell will miss at least five weeks of racing as he recovers from going under the knife.

The jockey is eager to be 100% fit for the upcoming flat season. Mitchell had a hugely successful 2018 by riding 66 winners and he’s hoping that once he is back to action, he can return to winning ways.

The talented rider also already has four winners in 2019 but this setback will mean that he will have a tough challenge to beat his record from last year.

2018 was the best year of Mitchell’s career by far and if he can return from his spell out with his same sharpness, then he will ride plenty more winners this year.
