Elliot hoping rain will help Samcro’s chances in the Fighting Fifth

Racehorse trainer Gordon Elliot has admitted that he wants it to rain in Newcastle so his horse Samcro has a better chance of winning at the Fighting Fifth Hurdle on Saturday.

The six-year-old was expected to race at the Morgiana Hurdle last Sunday but withdrew late on.

Samcro is now on course to participate at the weekend’s race in Newcastle with a potential battle against reigning champion hurdler Buveur D’Air.

As reported on the Irish Independent, Elliot said:

Samcro did a nice piece of work on Friday and the plan is still the Fighting Fifth. We just need a bit of rain over there now.

The ground at Newcastle was reported to be good to soft yesterday, which will be good news for Elliot who is hoping that more rain continues to fall over the remainder of the week.
