Justify claims Triple Crown win in Belmont Stakes

Justify completed US Flat racing’s Triple Crown with a historic victory in the Belmont Stakes on Saturday, Sky Sports report.

The Bob Baffert-trained horse is the 13th to complete the treble, and first since American Pharoah in 2015 who was then the first to win all three races since Affirmed in 1978.

The three-year-old, ridden by Mike Smith, is now unbeaten in all of his six races since his debut in February, after previously going unraced as a two-year-old.

After wins in the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes earlier in the year, many thought Justify would struggle in the final race of the Triple Crown, the 150th Belmont Stakes, however, he passed the test with flying colours.

Justify also became the second horse in history to claim the Triple Crown undefeated, with Seattle Slew in 1977 also doing so.

With success in the Triple Crown, Justify is sure to be a name which will now be recognised all over the world.
