History beckons for Justify in Belmont Stakes

Trainer Bob Baffert believes Justify is in the form of his life ahead of his Triple Crown attempt at the Belmont Stakes, Sky Sports report.

If Justify comes out on top, he will become just the 13th horse in history to win the Triple Crown after successes at the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes.

The last horse to claim the treble in the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes was Baffert-trained American Pharoah in 2015.

Talking ahead of the race, Baffert was in confident mood after just watching Justify enjoy a final run on the Belmont Park dirt track.

He’s doing really well. He’s just come back from exercise and, honestly, we couldn’t be happier with him. We’re all excited. I’m feeling pretty good about everything. The weather is looking good and I think a dry track will suit him much better.

Justify had to come through wet conditions in his previous two races, however, there is set to be a drier surface on Saturday.

The Belmont Stakes is seemingly the hardest of the three for any horse to win, with 12 horses between 1978-2015 managing to win the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes, but failing to win the Belmont Stakes.
