After guiding Masar to Epsom Derby glory, William Buick revealed he was ‘dreaming of a day like this ever since becoming a jockey’, the BBC report.
Masar surged to victory by one and a half lengths in the historic race, with red hot favourite Saxon Warrior only managing to finish fourth after jockey Ryan Moore failed to find a way through the congested field.

Aidan O’Brien was seeking a record equalling seventh Derby triumph and had five out of the 12 runners in the race.
However, O’Brien’s hopes of an Epsom double ended after Norwegian-born jockey Buick gave the Godolphin stable their first Derby victory, with Dee Ex Bee coming in second place and Roaring Lion third.
Talking after the race, an ecstatic Buick revealed how it felt like a dream come true.
I’ve come close a couple of times. I’ve had seven or eight rides and I was wondering if my time was ever going to come. He stayed the trip; he travelled beautifully. The Guineas didn’t happen for him, but he’s a very good horse and the team believed in him. Since I wanted to be a jockey this was the day I was dreaming of.
Masar’s trainer Charlie Appleby, who picked up his first classic, also admitted that it ‘feels like a dream’ after their surprising win.
