Romanised surprise winner in Irish 2,000 Guineas

Romanised pulled off an unexpected win in Saturday’s highly anticipated Irish 2,000 Guineas at the Curragh, the Daily Mail report.

Local trainer Ken Condon enjoyed his first win of the season and ended a 301 day winless run for his stable when Romanised produced a great run on the outside to overtake the Aidan O’Brien-trained US Navy Flag.

As well as runner-up US Navy Flag, trainer O’Brien, who was seeking a 12th success in the race, had third and fourth place finishes with Gustav Klimt and Threeandfourpence.

Trainer Condon, who only has 30 horses in his stable, spoke after the race and expressed his delight at the victory.

I’m in a bit of shock. It’s the stuff of dreams to win a classic. It’s all I wanted to do when I entered racing.

Ridden by Shane Foley, the 25-1 shot came from off the pace to lead and give Condon a surprise win.

Favourite for the race, Mark Johnston’s British raider Elarqam, who came fourth in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket, was well-beaten by the surprising winner Romanised.
