US champion jockey Jose Ortiz has confirmed that he will race at the Royal Ascot in his British debut, according to a report on the Racing Post.
The 24-year-old won the Eclipse Award for being the outstanding rider in 2017 and is eager to test himself in Europe, with the Royal Ascot being his first race in the continent.
He will ride Bill Mott-trained Yoshida who secured his first Grade 1 victory in the Old Forester Turf Classic on the Kentucky Derby undercard.
Harlan Malter, the managing director of Ironhorse Racing Stable said:
Jose is obviously the top rider in this country and it’ll be very interesting to see how he matches up with some of the European jockeys.
The Royal Ascot is set to commence on 19th June with fans eagerly anticipating a brilliant week of racing.
With Ortiz also participating, there is going to be some extra competition for the European riders, who will be eager to deny him the chance to be successful.
