Capri set to miss Coronation Cup

Trainer Aidan O’Brien has been forced to rule two-time Classic winner Capri out of the Coronation Cup at Epsom later this month.

The 4-year-old has impressive wins in the St Leger Stakes and the Irish Derby, but will now be forced to miss an attempt to add a third Classic to an already impressive haul.

O’Brien entered the colt in a race at Naas last month, where the horse ran home a winner in a field at five, just holding on from Cannonball at the post.

However, the efforts came at a cost for Capri and O’Brien.

The trainer said:

Capri had a little setback after his run at Naas,

He bruised a shoulder and is just not 100 per cent yet. So I wouldn’t say he will make Epsom

With a fair number of races clocked up for such a young animal, O’Brien will be disappointed he couldn’t get his youthful yet experienced charge ready for one of racing’s premier meets at Epsom.
