Charlie Appleby confident of Masar’s 2000 Guineas chance

Trainer Charlie Appleby has failed to find any negatives with Masar’s form ahead of the QIPCO 2000 Guineas at Newmarket on Saturday.

A huge winner in last month’s Craven Stakes, Masar finished eight lengths clear of second-placed White Mocha, also at Newmarket.

The three-year-old is one of the hottest prospects in the world of racing at the moment, and has recovered his career in the UK after a troubling spell in Dubai.

Appleby said:

I have been pleased with his preparation and he’s come out of the Craven in good order. I can’t give you a negative,

The way he galloped down into the dip in the Craven was very good, he handled it well. He’s very athletic. I’m very happy where we are with Masar at the present time.

We were obviously delighted with Masar’s performance in the Craven Stakes. We went into that race a fit horse, with the run under our belt out in Dubai, but you couldn’t have been more pleased with the way he quickened away in the final furlong. Once he hit the rising ground, he put a lot of distance between himself and the rest of the field.

The first Classic of the flat season includes a field of 14 runners, including a stunning trio of Aidan O’Brien horses –  Gustav Klimt, Saxon Warrior and Murillo.

Despite being third favourite in the eyes of the bookies, Appleby is confident his beast can pull off a result come race-day.
