Gold Present pulled from Grand National

Trainer Nicky Henderson has seen fit to pull his horse Gold Present from the Grand National field.

The eight-year-old had enjoyed a good start to the season back in December, winning a pair of chases in December before pulling up in the Ultima Handicap Chase at Cheltenham.

Henderson withdrew the horse on the basis of the going, which he deemed to have become overly soft, following a deluge on Merseyside in the last few weeks.

A 25-1 shot, Gold Present was Henderson’s only shot in racing’s biggest jump contest, as the trainer looks to draw results elsewhere in the Festival.

Might Bite, Apple’s Shakira and We Have a Dream are all ready to hit the Aintree course for the Seven Barrows team.

With the ground already slightly too soft for Henderson’s liking however, it may be worth watching the going as the week draws on to preempt any moves the trainer might be forced into.
