Nick Scholfield chosen to ride Maggio at Grand National

Young jockey Nick Scholfield has been booked to ride Aintree regular Maggio at the Grand National this weekend, Racing UK report.

Maggio, the 13-year-old, is trained by Patrick Griffin and is yet to compete in the big race itself at Aintree.

However, it will be Maggio’s sixth appearance on Merseyside and his debut competing in the race everyone wants to win.

Talking about Scholfield, James Griffin, the son of trainer Patrick said:

I’ve known Nick for a long time and he has ridden for us before. Maggio is very well. I rode him and I was absolutely delighted. It’s now all systems go for the National.

Owners of Maggio Douglas Pryde and James Beaumont have had National success in the last five years, with Auroras Encore coming out on top back in 2013 and will be hoping Scholfield can bring them more success on board Maggio on Saturday.
