Leighton Aspell sidelined for at least six weeks after fracturing neck

Leighton Aspell is set for an extended period of time on the sidelines after fracturing his neck in a fall, according to a report on the Racing Post.

Aspell is expected to be out of action for at least six weeks after falling in Hereford last week.

The jockey has fractured and cracked some bones in his neck but luckily for him, no surgery is required on the wounds.

Aspell stayed in the hospital for a few days last week but has now returned home to begin his recovery period.

When speaking about the injury, he said:

I’ve fractured the C5 vertebrae in my neck and cracked the C4.

Luckily no surgery is required but it’s six weeks in a neck collar, they’ll check it again then and hopefully we can make a plan.

If the news is good I’ll be able to start thinking about getting back on board and it’s not going to be a long, long time off.

The jockey is well known for his famous successive wins in the Grand National back in 2014 and 2015. He admitted that he thought the injury was minor at first but after further scans, the injury was revealed as quite serious.
