Politologue unlikely to have rematch with Altior

Politologue is unlikely to take to the course against Altior again this year, according to his trainer Paul Nicholls.

As Nicky Henderson moves towards entering the imperious Altior in the Celebration Chase at Sandown, Nicholls is reportedly looking to send Politologue elsewhere.

Going off as the top two fancied horses in the Queen Mother Champion Chase at Cheltenham, the race was expected to be something of a duel between the pair.

Although Altior was the overwhelming favourite, Politologue was considered a threat to knock the incredible eight-year-old from his perch – unbeaten in jump races.

Despite the punditry beforehand, Politologue struggled on the poor ground, spluttering to a fourth placed finish.

With the JLT Melling Chase the option for the 7-year-old at Aintree, Nicholls is still undecided:

He might go to Aintree but we haven’t decided for definite yet,

There are other options as well. There is Punchestown and Sandown but I’ve not spoken to John (Hales, owner) yet.

He can run wherever we want as he is fine. It just depends on what the opposition is.
