Cue Card to end career at Sandown

Cue Card will end his long and storied career with a run on the last day of the jumps season at Sandown.

The Oaksey Chase will play host to the swansong of one of the finest horses to have taken jumps here in Britian, and trainer Colin Tizzard and owner Jean Bishop think they made the right choice as to his final race.

Bishop said:

We decided on Sandown. We just thought it would suit him because it tends to be a small field for that race and it gives him a bit longer with the prospect of some nice ground.

Despite having been linked to a possible Grade One at Aintree, Tizzard ultimately made the call for Sandown,

It’s the last day of the season, too, so it’s a nice place for it all to come to an ending.

The Oaksey Chase has been run for four iterations, won every year by Menorah, himself retiring at the conclusion of last year’s race.

The 12-year-old Cue Card has 32 race wins in what has been a highly distinguished career, and has seen a total of £1,447,454 worth of prize money come in over that period.

Bishop went on to speak glowingly of her horse, saying:

It’s quite fitting he will end in a race that has only been won by Menorah, so far as he had quite a few good races against Menorah. Hopefully it will end the same way for us.

Like them all he has had the odd problem in his career, but touch wood, he has come through them all without missing a lot.
