Ruby Walsh suffers potential broken leg after horrific fall

Trainer Willie Mullins has confirmed that Jockey Ruby Walsh has suffered a potential broken leg after falling from his mount at the Cheltenham Festival today, according to BBC Sport’s journalist Francis Keogh.

Mullins and Walsh are now waiting for X-rays of the leg to see the full extent of the injury and the trainer believes that the Walsh may have broken the same leg as he did previously.

The Festival’s all-time leading rider only returned from breaking his leg six days ago and was hurt again when Al Boum Photo fell in the RSA Chase.

The 38-year-old was ruled out for almost four months and is only a week into his return as he suffers another setback.

Walsh won two races on the opening day of the Cheltenham Festival to take his total tally to 58 victories at the Festival.

Trainer Willie Mullins said:

It looks as if it’s the same injury as before. It’s right on the same point, but until we get the X-rays we can’t be sure.

It’s hugely disappointing for Ruby and everyone. That’s sport. We have to pick up and move on. He’s got an injury and I’m hoping he’ll recover from it.

It is likely that a further update will be given soon.
