‘Bet now’ adverts set to be banned by advertisement watchdog

People who bet on horse racing have received a blow as The Committees of Advertising Practice (CAP) are set to ban ‘Bet now’ commercials which appear on television, according to a report on the Racing Post.

CAP is responsible for the advertising codes in the United Kingdom and they are set to release new standards which ban advertisements which encourage people to bet now.

One of the main reasons why they want to introduce this ban is because it targets problem gamblers and helps to create or maintain an unhealthy addiction which can lead to drastic consequences.

The new standards are set to come into action on 2nd April and they hope that these new rules will help to solve the problem of gambling advertising.

The watchdog also revealed that the ban would help to give them more information on vulnerable gamblers and will help them to be protected.

CAP director Shahriar Coupal summed up the new rules perfectly. He said:

We won’t tolerate gambling ads that exploit people’s vulnerabilities or play fast and loose with eyecatching free bet and bonus offers.

Our new guidance takes account of the best available evidence to strengthen the protections already in place, ensuring that gambling is presented responsibly, minimising the potential for harm.

The new standards will also be used when there are any complaints received regarding the advertisement of gambling.
