The Tin Man set for York comeback run

James Fanshawe is keen to head to York with his superstar sprinter The Tin Man for his seasonal reappearance.

The five-year-old has always had ability but put it all together in striking fashion at the backend of the last season as he registered an impressive length victory in the G1 QIPCO British Champions Sprint Stakes under Tom Queally at Ascot on QIPCO Champions Day in October.

A hold up performer, Fanshawe’s charge is famed for his explosive turn of foot and his likeness of good ground. That was evident when the son of Equiano stayed on well but had his pace blunted by softer conditions at Haydock in the G1 Betfred Sprint Cup Stakes in September.

However, Fanshawe was delighted with the gelding’s Ascot victory and he will now head for some of Britain’s big sprint events this season as he looks to show just how good he is by beginning his campaign in the Duke Of York.

Fanshawe has done well with some fine sprinters including Society Rock and Deacon Blues in recent years and he said:

The Tin Man looks very well. He has just started to be stepped up in his work. The first race we are aiming him at is the Duke of York, then he will have a similar programme to last year.

He had a couple of hold-ups last year we just hope he has a clear run this season
