Baker in stable condition after fall at St Moritz

One of Britain’s leading flat jockeys, George Baker, is in a stable condition at a hospital in Switzerland after suffering a horrific fall at St Moritz on Sunday.

Baker was riding on the famous ice track aboard Jamie Osborne’s Boomerang Bob when the horse fell and was subsequently put down with Baker taking a terrible fall. The rest of the meeting was called off after the event in which two fellow horses were also involved in the incident – although no further injuries were sustained.

Baker, one of the nicest jockeys around tasted his first British Classic success in September last year aboard Laura Mongan’s Harbour Law who was produced to perfection by Baker to land the Ladbrokes St Leger at Doncaster.

Baker who rides for a number of trainers including Roger Charlton, whose Quest For More he partnered to success in the Grade One Prix Du Cadran at Chantilly last season, has ridden 22 winners from 129 runners so far this season but now faces a spell on the sidelines, but thankfully he has avoided major injury.

Zac Baker, George’s brother told the Press Association:

As far as I’m aware, the situation hasn’t changed today. His wife, Nicola, is now there with him while Mum and Dad have stayed at home to look after their baby. He’s still in intensive care but is stable.
