Tizzard believes Card will deliver right on Cue

Colin Tizzard believes stable-star Cue Card retains his old zest and will go close at next month’s Cheltenham Festival.

Speaking at a press day at his Dorset stable organised by Cheltenham racecourse, Tizzard paraded some of his Festival hopes which sadly did not include Thistlecrack who was ruled out of the Festival earlier this week through injury.

Amongst the stars on show were Cheltenham Gold Cup favourite and second-favourite Native River (3/1) and Cue Card (7/2) with Tizzard believing the latter, despite his rising age of 11-years-old will again go close to landing Racing’s Blue Riband event at Prestbury Park next month.

Travelling well in last year’s Gold Cup when taking a tumbling fall three fences from home, the son of King’s Theatre was an impressive winner of the Ascot Chase last weekend and looks to hold an outstanding chance of landing the Grade One event this time around particularly following Thistlecrack’s withdrawal.

Tizzard said: “He was fluent, jumped well and sluiced away. If you’d seen him on the gallop this morning he comes up it like a five-year-old. If he wasn’t 11 I’m sure he’d be favourite.

“People say well, he’s got to be waning. One day he will, but I don’t think for one second he is. He’s in the form of his life and let’s hope we can put right what didn’t happen last year. He has been going for seven season now and he’s a brilliant horse who doesn’t owe us a penny.”
