He was a magnificent winner of the 2015 Cheltenham Gold Cup and Coneygree looks more and more likely to be seen on a racecourse again this season despite missing the Festival as connections continue to be pleased with his recovery from a leg injury.
The ten-year-old son of Karinga Bay has run just twice since winning the Gold Cup with Mark Bradstock’s gelding last seen finishing second behind Cue Card in the 2016 Betfair Chase.
However, Bradstock and his team are delighted with how Coneygree is progressing despite his litany of injury problems and will hopefully be targeted for the Aintree and Punchestown festivals later this season.
Known for his fragile state, Coneygree became the first novice chaser since 1974 (Captain Christy) to win Racing’s Blue Riband event in 2015 under a superb ride from Nico De Boinville but thankfully the gelding looks to be making a recovery from his latest setback which has ruled him out of the Gold Cup for a second successive year.

Sara Bradstock, husband to trainer Mark, said: “It’s all going very very well. Everything’s going to plan. He’s doing a lot of work.
“The hope is he gets the all-clear to go cantering next week.
“He’s still in one piece and he will be back.”
