The most expensive point-to-point horse of all time was sold at a public auction for £480,000 on Thursday.
Flemenshill, a comfortable four-length winner of a point-to-point on his first start, was sold to Alan & Ann Potts, the powerful owners who have a number of horses with Jessica Harrington and Colin Tizzard, including Irish Gold Cup winner Sizing John and Cheltenham Festival challengers Finian’s Oscar and Fox Norton.
Flemenshill is a son of Flemensfirth and was bought for the Potts’ by esteemed agent Tom Malone and will be sent into training with Colin Tizzard.
The Potts are no strangers to parting with big money with the couple paying £250,000 for Neptune Investment challenger Finian’s Oscar after he won a couple of point-to-point races. The duo also paid an undisclosed sum for Fox Norton when buying the gelding out of Neil Mulholland’s stable earlier this season.
Richard Pugh, Irish point-to-point expert commented on At The Races:
The way he travelled, quickened was impressive. He is a big raw horse who looks to have a lot of improvement in him and he captured the imagination in the ring yesterday.
Tom Malone and the Tizzard’s were there to bid for him on behalf of Alan & Ann Potts and I wish them the very best of luck with him.
