Syzygy Lands 80/1 Shock In Denny Cordell Stakes Result

Syzygy produced a 80/1 shock in the Denny Cordell Stakes result at Gowran Park on Saturday, defeating Pollenca by just 0.1 lengths in a photo finish. According to the official result, Daniel McLoughlin’s filly, ridden by Scott McCullagh, delivered one of the card’s most striking upsets in the Group 3 contest run over 1m1½f on yielding-to-soft ground.

The Denny Cordell Stakes result overturned the betting market’s dominant storyline. Pre-race favourite Faiyum, rated 105 on the official ratings at 11/8, faded to eighth, beaten ten lengths. McCullagh’s charge had travelled prominently through the race before accelerating decisively inside the final furlong to repel all challengers.

Pollenca, also at a substantial price of 50/1, claimed second, whilst Sindria finished third at 3/1, just half a length further adrift. Joseph Patrick O’Brien supplied the next two finishers: Caught U Sleeping at 12/1 and Star Performer at 7/2. The race unfolded in 2m 6.33s, a winning time that reflected the demanding conditions.

The Denny Cordell Stakes result stands in sharp contrast to The Gowran Park Group 3 Preview, where Faiyum had been positioned as the commanding force. Elsewhere on the card, Greydreambeliever won the opening 7f race at 2/1F, Navajo Point triumphed in the apprentice handicap at 14/1, and Chipsrdown took the closing contest at 9/4F.
