Almeraq Dominates Betfair Sprint Cup Result at Haydock

Almeraq and Tom Marquand after winning the Betfair Sprint Cup result at Haydock

Almeraq delivered a dominant display to land the Betfair Sprint Cup result at Haydock on Saturday, hitting the front inside the final furlong and shooting away decisively under Tom Marquand. The William Haggas-trained colt was settled towards the back early before moving into contention from two furlongs out in the Group 1 sprint over six furlongs on soft ground.

The 9/4 favourite won by 4.25 lengths from Paborus at 5/1, with the winning margin demonstrating the strength of the performance. Big Mojo finished third at 9/1, beaten nine lengths. The Betfair Sprint Cup result confirms Almeraq as a significant force in the sprinting division.

Kind Of Blue, featured in our morning preview, failed to reproduce that form when backed at 4/1. The James Fanshawe runner travelled handy with the front pack early but found little inside the final furlong, fading to finish fifth, beaten 10.25 lengths. The disappointment will have cost backers given the Betfair Sprint Cup result’s significance as a Group 1 showdown. Aramram and Coppull claimed sixth and seventh.

The wider card delivered competitive racing throughout. Persica (100/30) edged out The Lost King by a whisker in the Group 3 Superior Mile Stakes, while First Law won the Listed Bow Echo Ascendant at 6/4F. Asia Force and Aegean Prince took the afternoon handicaps, with Aegean Prince coasting home in the 3:05 by 7.5 lengths. Poatan provided an upset in the 4:15 five-furlong sprint at 9/1, overcoming 2/1 favourite Trilby.
