# African Affair Lands 40/1 Shock in Navan September Handicap Result

**African Affair** won the Navan September handicap result at 40/1, producing a three-length success under Robbie Colgan for trainer Ms Sheila Lavery in the opening division of the 1m2f handicap at Navan on Saturday. The winner was rated 57 officially at the start of the afternoon, yet ran to a performance rating of 67, suggesting a marked return to form for the five-year-old gelding.

The Navan September handicap result marked a significant upset, as **Make The Tide**, the 13/8 favourite trained by W McCreery, was caught in the closing stages. Robbie Colgan settled **African Affair** off the pace and made his move between 3f and 2f out, hitting the front inside the final furlong to hold the late challenge of the favourite. **Nephin Mountain**, trained by Michael Mulvany, claimed third, 3.5 lengths back.
